Fresh Start Market at the Summersville Public Library
What a Fun Day at the Library!
Last week, we kicked off the Summer Reading Program at the Summersville Public Library and what a fantastic day it was! Twenty kids joined us for an afternoon filled with books, hands-on activities, and tasty veggies.
We started by reading “I Can Eat a Rainbow”, a book that helped everyone learn about the different colors and kinds of vegetables we can eat to stay healthy. After story time, the kids got to examine real vegetable seeds, learning what each one looks like and how it grows.
Next, we brought out the paints and cut-up veggies for a creative twist. Using everything from peppers to beets, the kids painted and discovered the unique patterns hidden inside their vegetables. It was messy, colorful, and a huge hit!
To wrap up our veggie adventure, everyone got to taste a variety of fresh vegetables — including turnips, brussels sprouts, plums, sugar snap peas, and more. It’s always a win when kids are excited to try new healthy foods!
And because we love surprises, each child left with a bag full of goodies and a juicy orange to enjoy at home!
A huge thank you goes out to Natalie at the Summersville Public Library for hosting such a fun and educational day. We can’t wait to see what the rest of the Summer Reading Program has in store!
